Comporta Vibe

The Algarve is of course an ever popular destination, we love it for its friendly appeal, modern villas, long sandy beaches and array of up market eateries and places to go out. Sneaking up as the latest contender for coolest place in Portugal is up and coming Comporta, - a place that may even command a position already as one of Europes top trend setter hangouts of choice. If you love Ibiza or St Tropez but not the crowds - then Comporta may be for you.

Located about an hour from Lisbon, at the base of the Troia Peninsula, there are over 10 kms of sandy beach where celebs holiday under the radar dining on seafood and sipping caipirinha cocktails. Pego beach and lunch at 'Sals', dolphin watching, exploring Comporta village itself (cue whitewashed houses with distinct terracotta roof riles) followed by a spot of designer shopping make for a most relaxing of days out. Other activities include horse riding over the sand, kayaking in the rice irrigation channels and cycling through the paddies.

Favourite eateries include 'A Cavalarica' which is actually a former horse stable, but a prime spot for champers and oysters. 'Comporta Cafe' on Praia da Comporta is a relaxed seafood gourmets dream. For beaches there is of course Praia da Comporta (but its somewhere that can get busy at weekends) so we suggest Praia do Pego - which is more secluded and private, accessed by wooden paths.
