Cannes - Picture yourself on the red carpet (vacuum cleaner optional)

Get ready for Cannes 2017!  This years Cannes Festival, taking place between 17-28 May, is the 70th edition and looks set to be something rather special.

The origins of the festival date back to 1932, but it wasn't until 1947 when the festival was held under the name 'Festival du film de Cannes'. In 1955 the Palme d'Or was created - the 2016 winner of this coveted award was the 'I, Daniel Blake' directed by British Film director Ken Loach.

Vying for the Palme d'Or this year include Michel Hazanavicius whose silent movie 'The Artist' won Best Film, Best Director and Best Actor at the 2012 Oscar awards. There are a few political items on the table too, including 'Sea Sorrow' relating to refugee issues by Vanessa Redgrave and a follow up to the eco film 'An Inconvenient Truth'.

Aside the actual awards, cameras will be snapping as the celebs step onto the red carpet. There are already column inches dedicated to underhand airbrushing tactics employed on an official poster for the festival, namely actress Claudia Cardinales thighs being made to look thinner.

We say 'get with the party'. If you are lucky enough to be there, its one to enjoy and read about the gossip the next day in your favourite journal. The town itself will be alive with after show parties and Cannes of course is a place alive with clubs, shows, dances and fine dining opportunities.
